The meeting between the special representative of the prime minister of Georgia for Russian affairs Zurab Abashidze and the Russian vice-minister of Foreign affairs Grigoriy Karasin, which had been planned for March 14, has been delayed again.
This has been reported by Georgia-online referring to the press service of the Georgian prime minister. There it is also mentioned that the meeting is supposed to take place within the next weeks.
“Today there was a telephone conversation between the special representative of the prime minister of Georgia for Russian affairs Zurab Abashidze and the Russian vice-minister of Forgeign affairs Grigoriy Karasin. It was agreed that the meeting of March 14 in the frame of Georgian-Russian dialogue will be held within the upcoming weeks (the exact date will be clarified). During the conversation the importance of prolonging the Georgian-Russian dialogue was stressed.” – as can be read in the release by the prime minister’s press service.
It should be mentioned that the meeting was supposed to take place 4-5 March in Prague, but after the intrusion of Russia into Ukraine was delayed to a later point. It can be assumed that the delay of the meeting is connected to the events in Ukraine and will be held after the planned illegal Crimea referendum, in which the inhabitants of Crimea are supposed to vote for integration into Russia. It has to be stressed that according to data of the Ukrainian side twenty thousand Russian soldiers are based on Crimea and that their number is increasing.
